Wooden Folding Doors

Hardwood folding doors are a beautiful addition to any property, adding a touch of class and style whilst being incredibly space-saving. They fill a room with natural light, making your living space instantly feel larger, well lit, and connected to the outside world.

With space at such a premium, what better way of separating rooms or the inside from the outside than with beautiful, hardwood folding doors? At Windows & Doors UK, we craft bespoke folding doors to match your exact requirements. Just tell us what you're after, and we will make it for you in our dedicated, on-site, UK-based joinery. Our Windows & Doors UK joinery makes complete folding door and bifold door sets, in sizes ranging from 3m up to 15m, with a wide range of door leaf styles and configurations for you to choose from. Despite these doors being larger, with more component parts, they provide a high level of security - with cylinder locks and drop bolts, as well as great thermal efficiency, thanks to high-quality mechanisms and gaskets which ensure the seals form an airtight seal when closed. All of the wood we use, the oak, and other hardwoods used to manufacture our timber folding doors are all sustainably sourced, certified by the forest stewardship council, hardwearing, weather-proofed and durable, providing you with secure folding doors for years to come.

Internal Folding Doors

Internal wooden doors are an excellent way to separate rooms within your home for some much-needed privacy. But the way they fold means you can turn two rooms into one ample open space. This is beneficial if you want to define your living area and have more flexibility.

External Folding Doors

A bespoke folding door can help you create a seamless transition from inside to outside, with the bi fold door serving as a focal point for your home.

FAQs about wooden bifold doors

What are the different types of wooden bifold doors?

There are a few different types of wooden bifold doors available, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the most common types:

  • Traditional bifold doors: These are the most common type of wooden bifold door. They are made up of a series of panels that fold in on themselves when opened. Traditional bifold doors are a good option for those who want a classic and elegant look.
  • Pocket bifold doors: These doors are similar to traditional bifold doors, but the panels slide into a pocket in the wall when opened. Pocket bifold doors are a good option for those who want to save space.
  • Stacking bifold doors: These doors are made up of a series of panels that stack on top of each other when opened. Stacking bifold doors are a good option for those who want a modern and minimalist look.

How do I choose the right wooden bifold doors for my property?

When choosing wooden bifold doors, there are a few factors you need to consider, including:

  • The size of your opening: The size of your opening will determine the size of the bifold doors you need and how many door leaves you require.
  • What you need the door for: Are you after external bifold doors or internal? Do you need folding sliding doors or folding patio doors?
  • The style of your home: The style of your home will help you decide what type of bifold doors will look best.
  • The budget: Bifold doors can range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. It’s important to set a budget before you start shopping.
  • The materials: Bifold doors are made from a variety of materials, including wood, aluminum, and PVC. Each material has its own advantages and disadvantages.
  • The finish: Bifold doors are available in a variety of finishes, including natural wood, stained wood, and painted wood.

How to install wooden bifold doors?

We are a full service company. As well as manufacture your timber bi fold doors, we also offer a full installation service ensuring your doors are fitted correctly. To find out more, speak to our friendly team today.

Which is better – aluminium bifold doors or timber bi folding doors?

While both have the pros and cons, we will always choose environmentally sourced timber bifold doors, simply because they’re traditional, elegant and an eco friendly option. Whereas aluminium bifold doors, while they might be slightly more cost effective, are not as insulating or energy efficient, and won’t last as long.

How to maintain wooden bifold doors?

Wooden bifold doors require regular maintenance to keep them looking their best and functioning properly. Here are some tips on how to maintain your new wooden bifold doors:

  • Clean the doors regularly with a mild soap and water solution. This will help to remove dirt, dust, and grime that can build up on the doors and cause them to look dull.
  • Apply a finish to the doors every few years to protect them from the elements. This will help to prevent the wood from drying out, cracking, or warping.
  • Lubricate the hinges and hardware regularly to keep them working smoothly. This will help to prevent the doors from sticking or becoming difficult to open and close.
  • Inspect the doors for damage regularly and repair any damage as soon as possible. This will help to prevent small problems from becoming big ones.

Design, Manufacture and Delivery

We use the finest in hardwood timbers to manufacture our folding doors, coupled with high-quality Pilkington glass units with lots of glass styling options from clear to opaque. Choose from thousands of different colours or a range of premium wood stains including Idigbo, Oak and Sapele.

Our folding doors can have multiple leaf arrangements from 3 doors to 6 doors +. Customise how the doors fold and the arrangements that the doors are in. There are also options to have folding doors which fold away into a cavity on either side of the room where the doors are installed.

Our joinery makes folding doors which are long-lasting, durable and resistant to high traffic usage. The wood used is treated and is designed to be waterproof and resistant against rot and wood deterioration.

Info
Our bifold doors can come in a variety of arrangements with multiple door leafs and sliding configurations. Our joinery can provide a complete folding door set up to 3m in height and up to 15m in width (3000mm x 12000mm) allowing you to separate rooms with ease, or to separate the garden from the rear of the house. Folding doors are a great way to make your property feel open plan by opening up entire rooms with one simple slide of the doors, which then stack up in multiple arrangements. Our folding doors are made from high-quality timbers that can be coloured or stained and can be styled to feature glass panels, bevelled architecture and more. Folding doors are a brilliant way to make your property feel more open plan, more spacious and brighter. They add a main focal point to any room where they are installed. They allow for better utilisation of space (versus doors which swing open and require space to do so). They increase natural light and airflow into the property and more.

Our high quality joint, hinge and locking mechanisms make them suitable for external use as well as internal use. Replica Doors

Replicate Folding Doors

If you are looking to replicate an existing door style then our joinery can help. If you are replicating an existing door which requires replacing then we’ll ask for details/imagery. If you have found a style elsewhere that you would like to replicate, please provide us with details during your enquiry. Some historic doors can (depending on age) be hard to find parts for, or maybe beyond economical repair, at which point, replica doors are ideal to replace with a like for like style with new materials and parts.
Ordering and Delivery

Ordering and Delivery

Windows & Doors UK make ordering a straightforward process. Once you have chosen your window/door product and have agreed the drawings/specifications and design the product will be scheduled for manufacture. Your products will be delivered by a scheduled date through recorded delivery.
Benefits of choosing bifold doors
Wood is a classic material, and it remains completely versatile to this day. Whether you have a contemporary home or a period property, our ethically sourced timber always makes an impression. All you need to do is decide on the finish and let your new door enhance your home.

Natural Insulator

One of the worst things about having an open plan home is challenging to heat. However, interior folding doors are an excellent solution because you can open them up in the summer but close them during winter to prevent heat loss and encourage natural warmth – meaning lower heating bills.

Long-Lasting Solution

If you’re worried about having to maintain your timber bifold doors, we can assure you that they’re a high-security solution that requires little maintenance. Our doors also come with multipoint bolts, which ensure maximum safety and protection for your home.

Ideal For Entertaining

Every year we celebrate the end of the colder months and the beginning of spring – usually with a BBQ! Hardwood bifold doors could be the perfect solution if you’re limited on outdoor space. They open up to merge your living room or conservatory into one vast space.
